A woman was hospitalized after being attacked by a cluster of brown recluse spiders in her backyard. The incident occurred when she was cleaning out a shed at her home and was bitten in the face by the highly venomous spiders on July 1.

Jessica Rogue,44, explained that she was trying to clear a tangled web when she suddenly felt the spiders on her. Within hours of being bitten, she experienced severe swelling in her face, arms, and throat and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Days after the incident, the mother of three says she’s still dealing with the rough recovery as she still has rashes and scars plus an eye patch over her eye, according to the Daily Mail.

Rogue’s medical condition had more complications due to her swollen lip due to a non-cancerous lymphoma and a piece of broken tooth embedded in her upper lip stemming from a bicycle accident where she was struck by a truck. However, her insurance doesn’t cover the removal of the lymphoma, as it is considered a cosmetic procedure. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help with her medical expenses while addressing the need for pest control to handle the spider infestation in Rogue’s home.

The brown recluse spider’s venom is dangerous and destructive, leading to tissue necrosis and large lesions that require medical attention. Rogue stated that her body is covered in an itchy, painful rash, and the bite areas are blistered.

The brown recluse spider, also known as the fiddleback spider due to a violin-shaped marking on its back, is a venomous spider found in many parts of the US. While their bites are rarely fatal, they can cause serious health problems. The venom destroys tissue around the bite, leading to a painful ulcer that can take weeks or months to heal and leave significant scarring. Brown recluse bites are often painless at first, so it’s essential to be aware of symptoms like redness, swelling, and blistering at the bite site. If you suspect a brown recluse bite, seek medical attention promptly to minimize tissue damage and promote healing.
