Get Ready for South Bend's Exciting Kids Triathlon!

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — South Bend Venues Parks and Arts (SBVPA) is thrilled to announce the 2024 Kids Triathlon, an exhilarating event for young athletes aged 5 to 14, set to take place at Riley High School on Saturday, July 20, at 8 a.m.

A Thrilling Challenge for Young Champions

This triathlon promises to be a fun and challenging adventure, encouraging children to embrace an active lifestyle. Participants will swim, bike, and run, showcasing their determination and athleticism. The event aims to inspire a generation of healthy, active kids across northern Indiana.

Event Details and Safety Measures

The triathlon course includes:

• A 50-yard swim (reduced to 25 yards for ages 5 to 8)
• A 1.3-mile bike ride
• A half-mile run

Safety is a top priority, with one swimmer per lane and lifeguards on duty. Children are allowed to use flotation devices and training wheels, though inflatable life jackets and water wings are discouraged in favor of coastguard-approved life jackets provided by SBVPA. Helmets are mandatory for all bikers.

Community Spirit and Celebration

Post-race, participants can enjoy activities on the track, cheer on fellow racers, and attend the awards ceremony. Every young athlete will receive a medal, and the top six in each age group will be awarded trophies. The event fosters community connections and celebrates the achievements of all participants.

Registration and Logistics

Proceeds from the triathlon benefit the SBVPA's Youth Scholarship Program, ensuring all children have access to enriching activities. Registration is open until Friday, July 19, at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Packet pickup is available on Friday, July 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Riley High School, located at 1902 Fellows St. in South Bend. In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled to Sunday, July 21.
