Former Hurricane Beryl, now a tropical depression over Arkansas, will continue to move northeast across the central United States and into the Great Lakes. By the time the storm arrives in New England, it will have merged with a northern stream trough. This will allow the soaking rain aspect of the storm to remain in place. The storm will slow down as it approaches New England thanks to a blocking high to our east.

A stream of tropical moisture and a slow-moving frontal boundary are expected to produce periods of heavy rainfall from South Carolina into the Northeast through the first half of the weekend.

The National Hurricane Center had been tracking an area of low pressure as it swirled off the southeastern U.S. coast for possible tropical development.

Good day to everyone; I hope that you had a great week. Looking at our forecast today, one thing concerns me: the high temperatures expected this afternoon. A heat advisory is in effect for southern Louisiana and Mississippi this afternoon. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s, with heat index values expected to be as high as 110 degrees Fehernight. Looking at our rainfall chances, I suspect areas along and south of Interstate 20 will have the highest chance of seeing some rainfall this afternoon. Even so, these showers will be spotty in nature, so I would not count on seeing much rain today, even if you reside south of Interstate 20.

Severe weather risks are shifting this week back to Plains and Midwest while the weather in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states couldn't be better to start off this holiday week. In the Northern Plains today we have severe thunderstorm and elevated tornado risks for the Dakotas, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota. The riska area shifts eastward Tuesday and Wednesday in the Middle and Upper Mississippi River Valley from Missouri and Kansas northward into parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
