    General Hospital star Lynn Herring honors 'joyful' co-star Richard Simmons after recent death

    General Hospita l star Lynn Herring honored Richard Simmons following the fitness guru and infomercial icon’s death on Saturday at the age of 76.

    Lynn has been portraying the character Lucy Coe on the beloved daytime soap opera since 1986. During her time on the show, she acted alongside Richard at one point. The exercise pioneer who made a name for himself through his televised aerobics routines guest starred on General Hospita l between 1979 and 1982. However, he returned 20 years later to the series for General Hospital’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

    The 65-year-old actress revealed to People that Richard had “meant a lot” to her and “so many” other people.

    “Richard Simmons meant a lot to so many folks including me,” Lynn said in a recent interview as she recalled working with Richard on the Emmy-winning show. “When Richard walked on our General Hospital stage it would sizzle with his life force, his wicked sense of humor, his joy of entertaining and his love for us all.”

    Whenever Richard would appear on the soap opera, he’d often irritate Lynn’s character Lucy. Lynn is viewing those moments more dearly now since Richard is no longer living.

    “The last day I worked with him [in 2013], I admired his shirt that had a beautiful jeweled bird on it. When I finished my scenes and came back to my dressing room it was sitting on my couch with a simple Love, Richard,” Lynn recalled.

    She continued, “Thank you Richard for all you gave of yourself to so many!”

    Richard left many fans heartbroken when he died on Saturday, one day after his 76th birthday. Richard's cause of death is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.

    Police revealed to People that there was "no foul play" in the exercise pioneer's death. The Medical Examiner's Office announced that Richard's cause of death has been deferred, which means that "an investigation and additional testing" is needed, per People.

    The television star died in his home on July 13. Police and the fire department, who responded to a call that Richard's housekeeper made at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, pronounced him dead at the scene, according to TMZ.

    Upon Richard's death, his publicist told People that "the world has truly lost an angel." Richard was very optimistic in is golden years, revealing to People that it felt "good" to hitting 76.

    "I am grateful that I'm here, that I am alive for another day," he said. "I'll spend my birthday doing what I do every day, which is to help people."
