Akshay Kumar ‘s eagerly awaited release, Sarfira , a remake of the hit 2020 Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, witnessed a significant fall in its box office collection on its first Monday, July 15, 2024. Despite a promising weekend, the film struggled to attract audiences on its first weekday, recording the lowest earnings since its release.

Sarfira box office collection day 4: How much did Akshay Kumar’s movie earn?

Sarfira, directed by Sudha Kongara and a remake of the acclaimed Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, hit theaters on Friday, July 12, 2024. The film, which also stars Radhika Madan, Paresh Rawal, Seema Biswas, and Suriya, had a rocky start. On its opening day, the film marked the lowest earnings in Akshay Kumar’s career, spanning over 15 years. Sarfira earned only $299K on Friday, which is slightly more than its recent Monday earnings.

However, the weekend showed signs of hope. On Saturday, the box office collection surged by 70 percent, bringing in $508K. Sunday saw another increase of 23.53 percent, with earnings reaching $628K. These figures indicated a potential turnaround, but the hopes were short-lived.

The box office collection on Monday told a different story. On its fourth day at the box office, Sarfira earned only $173K, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk . This drop was substantial, highlighting the film’s struggle to attract weekday audiences. Currently, the box office total of Akshay Kumar’s latest movie stands at $1.6 million.

The overall occupancy rate on Monday was just 11.63 percent. In Mumbai, with 390 shows, the occupancy was 13.50 percent. In Delhi and NCR, with 525 shows, the occupancy stood at 11.25 percent. Furthermore, Sarfira faced stiff competition from Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, released on the same day. Despite mixed reviews, Indian 2 outperformed Sarfira significantly.

As Sarfira continues its theatrical run, it remains to be seen whether it can recover and improve its box office performance, especially since the film will come in contention with Vicky Kaushal’s eagerly awaited film Bad Newz this upcoming Friday.
