A recent study ranked states where people were allegedly unhappiest with their jobs, so much so that they quit.

    Idaho ranked fourth.

According to a study based on data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and compiled by digital marketing agency Hennessey Digital , Idaho came in behind four other states for the highest quitting rates of employees each month.

In March of this year, approximately 25,000 people left their jobs throughout the Gem State, which is about the same as March of the previous year. The report did not detail what percentage of those jobs were seasonal. With its position in fourth place, Idaho’s numbers were 2.9% compared to the top three.

Alaska came in first with 4.5% of its workforce quitting in March. The study is based on the working population of each state, and the 49th state had 15,000 people leave their jobs. That’s 4,000 more than March of 2023.

Wyoming was second at 3.4% or 10,000 workers leaving their jobs, and Montana was third at 3% or 16,000. Only 1.5% of workers in Washington, Pennsylvania and California quit their jobs. However, since those states have much higher populations, the number of people resigning were larger than those that ranked in the top four. California had 262,000 people resign; Washington had 55,000; and Pennsylvania hade 93,000.

“From the results, it’s clear to see that a steady stream of workers across America are constantly leaving their jobs, be it for retirement or a different career,” said Jason Hennessey, CEO of the marketing firm. “Louisiana experienced one of the largest changes, with an impressive 36% decrease in quitters between 2023 and 2024. It’ll be interesting to see if new states make the top 10 ranking in the future.”

Several states tied for fifth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place on the list.
