COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Starting the day off mild and muggy with overcast skies after Monday’s storms. We will see similar conditions unfold again today throughout the afternoon and evening. So if you didn’t get rain yesterday there will be a chance this afternoon and also tomorrow.

Temperatures will climb into the mid to low 90s this afternoon ahead of the showers and storms, much like yesterday. Heat index values will likely climb into the lower 100s again. A Heat Advisory is posted for a portion of our east Alabama counties through Tuesday night for those high heat indices.

Moisture has returned to the southeast which is causing the eruption of thunderstorms in the afternoon with the help of daytime heating. Also a forcing mechanism is approaching by the way of a front. That will help increase thunderstorm coverage as we head towards the latter portions of the week.

With the increased rainfall coverage and clouds temperatures will be slightly cooler in the extended forecast. We go from the mid 90s for Tuesday and Wednesday to the upper 80s by Friday afternoon. Enjoy the cool down and hopefully we all receive some beneficial rainfall to help the drought conditions.
