There have been growing retirement calls for Chris Jericho, but he sees no reason for the request as he significantly contributes to AEW

As I opened up, I do think it’s somewhat crazy (to me, at least) that Chris Jericho is still going. Though there is a part of me it makes me feel old, too. I grew up watching guys like Jericho and Rey Mysterio in ECW, long before they broke out on the national stage in WCW and then WWE . And I feel old because I was in high school back then, and now I have invites for my 25th COLLEGE reunion. So, yes, it’s been a long run for Jericho. But after some recent performances, some AEW fans have been vocally calling for him to retire .

Except, Chris Jericho says isn’t ready yet

According to Jericho in a recent interview , he still has the love for wrestling. It’s something that AEW rekindled for him. He feels that a veteran like himself has plenty left to offer in the ring, as well as to the younger talent in the back. Lionheart also notes that he is having a tremendous amount of fun. Plus, he seems to believe he is doing his best work ever.

I was a big fan of Chris Jericho. Loved him in his Lionheart era when I first saw him in Philadelphia. His WCW run was forgettable. But ever since WWE brought him in with the Y2J gimmick, he’s been one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots. That being said, nothing he’s done in AEW has brought in eyeballs. Nothing he’s doing now inspires me to tune in. And, he’s allegedly one of their top paid stars . Upon hearing the calls for him to retire, I’ve watched some segments after the fact, and I can see their point.

I get that he feels strongly that he’s doing his best work and having the most fun. And I realize that it is really hard to walk away from something you’ve been doing for over 30 years. But, part of AEW’s issue is there are too many relics holding on, rather than stepping back and guiding from the back. If Jericho wants to help lead by example, stepping away might be the best example he could possibly set. So, should Chris Jericho finally think about retirement?
