Effingham County is scheduled to hold an open house from 5p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 17 for the Safe Streets for All Plan. The event will be held at the Clarence E. Morgan Complex Gymnasium.

The goal of the meeting is to collect information regarding traffic concerns. Residents are encouraged to drop by within the 2-hour period to provide input to county staff.

During the State of the County address in April, the county unveiled a massive plan to fix dozens of roads to prepare for the area’s growing population.

More than a dozen roundabouts are planned for construction throughout the county, 19 in the design phase with more under consideration.

The county also plans to develop an East-West Corridor to reduce congestion where McCall Road and Blandford Road intersect. The entire route is 5.4 miles with two miles being a newly constructed roadway. McCall Road will connect to a roundabout, which will then take motorists to Highway 21, giving drivers a more efficient way to get to Effingham Parkway, avoiding Ninth Street altogether.

"The city is very excited to be partnering with Effingham County for such a monumental project," said Rincon City Manager Jonathan Lynn regarding the East-West Corridor. "When we talk about projects that can change the trajectory of regions, this is one of those projects."Latrice Williams is a general assignment reporter covering Bryan and Effingham County.
