Following a knife attack on Israeli security forces during an operation in the West Bank, the suspected attacker has been killed, according to Israeli reports on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old Palestinian was a resident of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli police said. It was initially unclear why he was in the West Bank.

The man initially ran towards the Israeli forces during a night raid near Ramallah, according to reports. He then stabbed an Israeli officer.

The officer was injured and taken to hospital, Israeli authorities said. The Palestinian man was shot dead. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that the border police officer was lightly wounded.

The Israeli Border Police, together with the army and the domestic intelligence service Shin Bet, had carried out an anti-terrorism raid overnight, according to reports. No further details of the operation were initially released.

Separately, the official Palestinian WAFA news agency reported of clashes during a raid near Ramallah early on Tuesday. A 20-year-old man was killed by shots fired by Israeli forces.

Elsewhere in the West Bank, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said that three Israelis were injured by shattered glass in a shooting attack on their car on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place on a road connecting two Israeli settlements in the north-west of the Palestinian territory, where several Palestinian villages are also located.

The situation in the West Bank has worsened dramatically since the start of the Gaza war, which broke out in response to the Hamas massacre in southern Israel on October 7.

Since then, more than 550 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military operations, confrontations or as a result of their own attacks in the West Bank, according to health officials.

Violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians has also increased during this period.
