Henrico's massive new park with water play and BMX trails is now open

Taylor Farm Park , Henrico's first large community park in more than 40 years, opens Tuesday off Williamsburg Road in Varina.

Why it matters: A skatepark, event area, large playground, spray park, cycling pump track, bike dirt skills course, mist mounds, treehouse and a zipline are among the features of the new 99-acre park .

The big picture: Henrico broke ground on the $20.1 million park last February after purchasing the land from the Taylor family in 2016.

• The county incorporated community feedback into its park plan.
• Officials say the park will be a regional destination for skateboarders and BMX bikers .

Zoom in: The park's official opening is Tuesday at 11am, but the county will host events all week to celebrate the ribbon cutting, including food trucks Wednesday through Saturday, outdoor movie night on Friday and World BMX Day Saturday.

Details: Taylor Farm Park is open daily from dawn to dusk at 200 Whiteside Road.
