Public can help shape health of Barron County via survey

    2024-07-16

A partnership of local organizations is seeking opinions from people who live and work in Barron County to help guide future community health improvements.

The Barron County Community Coalition and its partners are conducting a Community Health Needs Assessment to understand the important health-related issues facing community members. The results will help the coalition understand what is going well and what might need improvement.

All community residents are encouraged to take the short, anonymous survey to make their voices heard. Paper copies of the survey, available in English, Somali and Spanish, will be available at local agencies through September and by request. The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete. Participants who complete the survey will also have a chance to enter their name in a drawing for a $100 Visa gift card.

Using survey results, the partnership will identify and work to find solutions for the health issues that Barron County residents decide are the highest priorities.

The survey will ask Barron County residents to rank a variety of issues that might affect them personally or affect the whole community ranging from education to healthcare to social issues. The results of the survey will help the partnership decide which issues to prioritize, and which interventions may be effective.

The partnership includes Aging and Disability Resource Center of Barron and Rusk Counties, Barron County Department of Health and Human Services, Cumberland Healthcare, Marshfield Clinic Health System, Mayo Clinic Health System and NorthLakes Community Clinic. The partnership conducts this health survey every three years in compliance with state and federal requirements.

The survey is just the first step in gathering opinions from the community. The partnership plans to hold a community conversation this fall to discuss survey results, talk about other health data, and ask residents what factors contribute to health issues in the area.

The process will end in early 2025, when a report called a Community Health Assessment will be released for Barron County. The Barron County Community Coalition and its partners will use the report to help guide them in creating a community health improvement plan so that everyone in Barron County can live happier and healthier lives.

For more information, or to have Spanish, Somali or paper copies dropped off or an email sent to an organization or place of work, contact the coalition at bc3coalition@gmail.com or call 715-537-5691.
