Shannen Doherty’s mom Rosa breaks silence on her cancer death after star gave mother her belongings

SHANNEN Doherty’s mom, Rosa, broke silence on her daughter’s cancer death after she gave her mother all her belongings.

Shannen passed away on July 13, 2024, after a long battle with cancer .

On Monday, Rosa Doherty released a statement with People following the untimely death of the Beverly Hills, 90210 star.

“She is my beautiful girl and my heart,” Rosa said.

“Our family wants to thank everyone who has shown love and support for our Shannen throughout her life.

“We are truly appreciative.”

Shannen was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.

She went into remission two years later; however, the disease returned as stage 4.

The Charmed star announced her cancer had returned in 2020 and had spread to her bones in 2023.

Her battle sadly ended on Saturday, which her publicist Leslie Sloane announced the following day.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” Leslie said in a statement.

“On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.

“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie.”

The statement concluded by asking fans to give her family privacy.

SELLING HER BELONGINGS

Just months before Shannen passed, she spoke on her podcast Let’s Be Clear, saying she sold her possessions to make it easier on Rosa.

“My priority at the moment is my mom – I know it’s going to be hard on her if I pass away before her,” Shannen explained at the time.

“Because it’s going to be so hard on her, I want other things to be a lot easier.

“I don’t want her to have a bunch of stuff to deal with. I don’t want her to have four storage units filled with furniture.”

Shannen Doherty Cancer Battle

• In 2015, Shannen revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent chemotherapy, radiation, a mastectomy, and reconstructive surgery.

• Two years later, the actress said she was in remission.

• In 2020, Shannen revealed her cancer had returned as stage 4.

• In early 2023, Shannen underwent surgery to have a tumor removed from her head after the cancer had spread to her brain.

• In November 2023, the actress revealed the cancer had spread to her bones.

While she said selling her things took an emotional toll on her, Shannen said it was the “right thing to do.”

“Because you’re helping the people that you leave behind just have a cleaner, easier transition.”

In November last year, the actress accredited her strength to her mother.

“I come from a woman who was determined,” Shannen previously told People .

“She impressed that upon me as a very young child like, ‘You don’t give up. You just have to work hard at it.'”

Shannen went on to say she was “always a fighter.”

“I was raised that way to be very strong and that I could do anything that I put my mind to.”

In addition to selling her possessions, Shannen filed to officially divorce her ex-husband, Kurt Iswarienko , a day before she passed.
