FL-Based Salt Life To Be Auctioned Due To "Financial And Business Difficulties," Layoffs Possible

Over the past several months, I've written about different types of retailers - from discount stores to higher-end establishments shutting their doors. For example, I've covered the closures of Family Dollar and The Body Shop, as just a few examples. And now, the parent company of Florida-based Salt Life will be attempting to auction off its Florida stores.

About Florida-Based Salt Life: Some Floridians probably already intuitively embrace the "salt life" lifestyle, which, according to the company itself, encompasses those who love the beach.

Salt Life was home-grown in Florida, getting its start in Jacksonville Beach and expanding in both stores and restaurants (the Salt Life Food Shacks are in locations in Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Fernandina Beach.) The South Florida Sun Sentinel has called the brand "iconic."

Many Floridians embrace Salt Life stores. For example, a store in Sarasota gets 4.5 out of 5 stars. Although some lamented the lack of some sizes, most appreciated having access to a store in their backyards. A reviewer named Brian wrote:

"We’re so thrilled we have our own Salt Life right here in the circle!! Stunning location, smiling faces all around!!"

The Auction And Possible Florida Closures And Layoffs: The parent company of Salt Life, Delta Apparel, filed for bankruptcy in June of 2024. The company intends to auction Salt Life in August of 2024. However, if the company cannot find a buyer, it has indicated that it will lay off approximately 96 Florida workers and close its locations.

In a warn letter, the company referenced "financial and business difficulties."

The author is not affiliated with Salt Life or any other retailers.
