England midfielder Jude Bellingham had an angry exchange with Gareth Southgate during the Three Lions' Euro 2024 final defeat, it has been claimed .

Southgate's team went in level at the break against Luis de la Fuente's men 0-0 , but fell behind 69 seconds after the restart when Nico Williams found space on the left and beat Jordan Pickford. Substitute Cole Palmer levelled for England, only for one Spain's Mikel Oyarzabal, to score a late winner.

Bellingham's frustration, according to reports, stemmed from the outgoing Southgate's failure to make early changes when his team was struggling. The 21-year-old is reported to have "lost it" with the manager who turned to his bench shortly thereafter.

England replaced Harry Kane with Ollie Watkins on the hour mark, bringing Cole Palmer on for Kobbie Mainoo about 10 minutes later. Palmer combined with Bellingham to draw England level, but Oyarzabal's late goal was a hammer blow.

Speaking after the game, Bellingham didn't hide his frustration with the result. "It's really disappointing because at some point we do have to deliver, but there are experiences and there's things we can take from this tournament going forward," he said.

"I suppose if you look at everything negatively, nothing will ever change. So it's important we pick the positives and the negatives together and find a way to one day get England over the line. I came here to win. We came here to win. Like I said, there's experiences that we can take going into the next one."

Tellingly, Bellingham also announced that he hoped Southgate stayed in place for the World Cup, and that he wanted desperately to win for his manager, who was seen consoling England's No.10 at the final whistle. Southgate suggested immediately after the final was not the time to comment on the matter, but announced he was quitting on Tuesday.

"As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England. It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all," Southgate wrote in a statement. "But it's time for change, and for a new chapter. Sunday's final in Berlin against Spain was my final game as England manager."

England don't return to action until September, when they begin their UEFA Nations League campaign against Ireland at the Aviva Stadium. By the time that fixture rolls around, we may have more of an idea of who will lead the Three Lions forward ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Liverpool.com says : "It's easy to see why Bellingham might have been frustrated. England were outclassed from minute one against Spain, right up until Cole Palmer's equaliser (which coincided with Southgate taking off Kane) offered the Three Lions some hope.

"While some could view Bellingham's behaviour as petulant, or spoiled, the England midfielder was right - something had to change on the pitch and it did, only for that all to be undone when Dani Olmo, Marc Cucurella and Oyarzabal exploited Kyle Walker's bad positioning for Spain's winner."
