If you’re shopping for a sedan , you’re probably looking for something comfortable and practical. But remember that some models might not be the best for your wallet.

You’re going to be investing in a car that you’ll own for years–but you might be surprised at how much some of the less reliable cars can end up costing you during those years.

Here are four sedans that may seem appealing at first glance but could end up costing you a fortune over time.

    Maserati Quattroporte

The Maserati Quattroporte is a stunning example of a good-looking Italian car. But this beauty comes at a steep price, both upfront and over time.

“Italian flair, coupled with the best-sounding V8 on the market, makes the Quattroporte quite exquisite,” said Evaldas Zabitis, automotive expert at carVertical .

“However, buying this car requires a lot of bravery and a unique attitude towards car ownership. The Quattroporte will lose its value in the blink of an eye, and its maintenance costs will be excessive. For example, the average price of an oil change is $1,000.”

The Quattroporte loses value at an alarming rate. It’s not uncommon for this Maserati to shed over 50% of its initial value in just three years. This rapid depreciation means that if you decide to sell or trade in your Quattroporte, you’ll likely face a significant financial loss.

    Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class offers cutting-edge technology and sumptuous comfort in a luxury sedan. But this model also comes with a big price tag that extends well beyond its already high purchase price.

“The Mercedes-Benz S-Class and other models in the lineup are synonymous with luxury and cutting-edge technology,” reported the AI Auto Expert at AutoEasy , founded by Daniel Yuabov.

“However, maintaining these vehicles can be quite costly, averaging $15,986 over a decade. The advanced safety and entertainment systems often require expensive repairs.”

Maintenance and repair costs for the S-Class can be astronomical. This sedan is packed with complex systems and high-end components. When they need repair or replacement, get ready to open up your wallet. Even routine maintenance can get expensive.

    Toyota Mirai

Toyota is known for producing reliable, cost-effective vehicles. But the Mirai presents a unique set of challenges that can lead to surprisingly high long-term costs.

“The Mirai offers the technological breakthrough we all hoped for,” said Zabitis. “In theory, it combines the advantages of combustion-engines and electric cars in one package. However, the questionable future of hydrogen makes it one of those cars that will be very expensive to buy and worthless in about 4 to 5 years.”

The initial purchase price of the Mirai is high. But the real issues arise when you consider the practicality and long-term expenses associated with ownership.

Fueling the Mirai is perhaps the biggest hurdle. Hydrogen fueling stations are few and far between, with the vast majority concentrated in California. This limited infrastructure means that for many potential owners, the Mirai is simply not a viable option.

    Volvo S90

The Volvo S90 presents an interesting case in the luxury sedan market. It comes with long-term costs that can catch you by surprise.

“Volvo sedans, particularly the S90, are known for their safety features and solid build quality,” reported AutoEasy’s AI Auto Expert. “Despite this, they have high maintenance costs, averaging $13,513 over ten years. The advanced safety systems, while beneficial, contribute to the higher repair expenses.”

Maintenance costs for the S90 add up quickly. Volvo has a reputation for building durable vehicles, but the technology in the S90 can lead to expensive repairs when things go wrong. And finding specialized mechanics or parts for the Volvo can also be challenging.
