WEATHER ALERT: Tornado warning no longer in effect for western Massachusetts

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Tornado Warning was in effect for East Central Hampshire and Franklin County.
A Tornado Warning was issued Tuesday evening by the National Weather Service for parts of Hampshire and Franklin County, causing outages and damage. The 22News Storm Team has also issued a Weather Alert for the chance of evening/overnight thunderstorms on Tuesday that could be strong to severe.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties until 1 a.m. Wednesday.
A Heat Advisory is in effect for eastern Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties through Wednesday evening. The heat index will make it feel like it’s around 100 degrees.
Heavy rain and wind gusts over 70 mph caused damage across Franklin and Hampshire County Tuesday night. On Country Club Road in Greenfield, 22News crews could see power lines and trees down, with police closing off the road. Sections of Greenfield are experiencing power outages Tuesday evening, which crews are actively working to restore.

As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, nearly 23,000 customers are still without power across Massachusetts. Significant power outages are being reported in Goshen, New Salem, and Athol, as well as Williamstown and Clarksburg in the Berkshires.
Those communities were 100% without power at one point Tuesday night. Utility crews are working to restore power, and we will update this story as new information becomes available.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny skies for much of the day. The intense heat and humidity will continue with highs in the middle 90s and the heat index making it feel like it’s around 100 degrees.
Tuesday night, storms are likely before midnight. Lows in the upper 60s and low 70s.

Wednesday looks to be hot and humid with more thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Highs in the 90s. The heat and humidity look to break later in the week.
