RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Brian LiVecchi, the chief of staff and general counsel for Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, invoked a controversial comment from his boss following the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump.

Trump, the Republican nominee in the 2024 presidential election, suffered a minor gunshot wound to the ear when a gunman opened fire at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. The gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, and one attendee, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, died in the shooting.

Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson calls reporter’s question regarding ‘killing’ comment ‘shameful’

A few hours after the shooting, a video depicting a bloodied body being removed from the rally by law enforcement was posted on X. The post reads, “It is unknown if the body belongs to a Trump supporter [who] was killed in the crossfire or the shooter.”

LiVecchi reposted the video and wrote, “Some people need killing, as it turns out. Huh.”

LiVecchi’s comment was a reference to a speech given by Robinson, the Republican nominee in the North Carolina governor’s race, during which he was quoted as saying “Some folks need killing.” It is not clear who Robinson was referring to.

Robinson’s campaign has called the matter a “dishonest smear” and say he is being taken out of context. The Lieutenant Governor refused to clarify his comments when asked by CBS 17’s Capitol reporter Michael Hyland last week, calling the question “silly” and “shameful”.
