Liverpool and England star Trent Alexander-Arnold has responded on social media to the exit of Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate , thanking the former manager. England lost 2-1 against Spain in the final of Euro 2024 just a couple of days ago.

"As a proud Englishman, it has been the honor of my life to play for England and to manage England," Southgate said in a statement earlier today. "It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all. But it’s time for change and for a new chapter. Sunday’s final in Berlin against Spain was my final game as England manager."

And Alexander-Arnold has shared the England graphic with the words "Thank you Gareth" written on it to his Instagram story. The Liverpool man's skills were never fully utilized by Southgate but the former England coach was well thought of at the FA.

Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp has been linked with the vacancy while Graham Potter and Eddie Howe are among the early favorites. Mauricio Pochettino has also been mentioned.

"The process for appointing Gareth’s successor is now underway and we aim to have our new manager confirmed as soon as possible," FA CEO Mark Bullingham said. "Our UEFA Nations League campaign starts in September, and we have an interim solution in place if it is needed. We know there will be inevitable speculation, but we won’t be commenting further on our process until we appoint."

Liverpool.com says: If Southgate had got the best from Alexander-Arnold and had a proper attacking plan, England could have been a lot more exciting to watch at the very least. In all likelihood, the Three Lions would have gone on to win at least one major tournament in that scenario too.

Southgate did well to an extent, but whoever comes next will hope to kick on again. England has a really talented group of young players and should have done even better than it has lately.
