A new program from the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon services aims to help offenders find jobs.

The agency will provide 21 laptops to county offices that offenders can use to find work. The computers have software to create resumes, cover letters and power-point presentations.

Officials say laptop use will be monitored and they’ll be moved from county-to-county as needed.

Right now about 26-percent of the state’s active offender population is unemployed.
