Michel & Amazonka Designs Viral Mongolian Olympic Uniforms for the 2024 Paris Games

The U.S. has Ralph Lauren and France has Berluti , but it’s Mongolia’s Olympic uniforms that are causing a viral stir.

The Ulaanbaatar-based label Michel & Amazonka revealed athletes’ attire for the opening and closing ceremonies earlier this month, but they’ve garnered buzz across social media as recently as this week.

Consisting of embroidered vests and caftans resembling Mongolian deels, Michel & Amazonka created four different looks: two for men and two for women.

Flag bearers have their own special garb, with men wearing traditional pointed hats (buryat) and boots (gutals).

Michel & Amazonka’s uniforms incorporate the red, gold and blue color scheme of the Mongolian flag. Vests are emblazoned with the country’s national symbol, the Soyombo, as well as the Olympic torch and rings.

“They just won the Olympics before it even started,” said style writer Ryan Yip. His TikTok video featuring the uniforms has amassed more than 2 million views.

According to the Mongolian National Olympic Committee, each uniform took more than 20 hours to complete.

Founded by sisters Michel and Amazonka Choigaalaa in 2015, the label seeks to “express the essence of Mongolian tradition and culture” through contemporary design.

Michel & Amazonka also designed Mongolia’s uniforms at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, as well as at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, where the country scored one silver and three bronze medals.
