Beverly Hills, 90210 and Heathers star Shannen Doherty died on Saturday, July 13, 2024. The actress was in a long standing battle with cancer, and at age 53 her fight is finally over. To honor Shannen Doherty's life and lasting legacy, we're looking at the seven movies and TV shows that she starred in over the years that most touched the audience.
Doherty was born on April 12, 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee, but moved to Los Angles when she was seven. The actress began working in Hollywood four years later and continued to do so until her death. Doherty was married to Ashley Hamilton from 1993 to 1994, then she married Rick Salomon in 2002, a union that only lasted a year. Finally, the actress wed Kurt Iswarienko in 2011 and they remained together until her death. She had no children.
Shannen Doherty has revealed that she's cut off her hair and shaved her head as she continues to battle breast cancer.
Shannen Doherty's death was announced on the morning of July 14, 2024 with her publicist telling PEOPLE magazine, "It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty . ... The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace."
This comes after the actress' battle with breast cancer, which began in 2015. In 2023, she announced that the cancer had become stage 4, telling PEOPLE, “When you ask yourself, ‘ Why me ? Why did I get cancer?’ and then ‘Why did my cancer come back? Why am I stage 4?,’ that leads you to look for the bigger purpose in life.”
