King Charles and Queen Camilla were ushered away from a royal engagement in the Channel Islands on Monday (July 15) due to a brief security threat. According to New York Post , the monarch and his wife were on day two of a four-day tour through the islands when an engagement in Jersey went awry.

The royal couple were conversing with a local business man when security identified a threat and ushered them into a nearby hotel, cutting their visit with the beloved island country's residents short.

The threat was not immediately seen by those present at the event, but security were sure to get King Charles, 75, and Queen Camilla, 76, out of the public eye and into the Pomme d’Or hotel as quickly as possible.

New York Post mentioned that the threat was perceived to be a drone, flying in the sky above the royals as everyone on the ground remained clueless to the scare. Among the confused was Jersey Sea Salt founder Matt Taylor . The businessman just started speaking with the King when security stepped in.

“He stopped at the stall and said ‘Ooh sea salt’ and I said ‘Come and have a chat, Sir.’ Then his security appeared and grabbed me and said ‘He has to go, now. He didn’t seem panicked but he was quite stern. They just ushered him out. It’s a shame as he’d stopped to chat to us of his own accord.”

Once the threat was assessed, the royal pair were able to resume their engagement.

Both the King and Queen are safe as the public await a statement from Buckingham Palace.
