The Perseid meteor shower has returned, bringing a stunning celestial display for stargazers across the state as it illuminates night skies across Texas.

Described by NASA as one of the brightest meteor showers, the Perseid meteror shower will continue through Aug. 24 with a peak between Aug. 11-12 and "excellent" visibility across the entirety of Texas.

When is the best time to view the Perseid meteor shower?

The best time to watch the Perseid meteor shower is in the pre-dawn hours, ahead of the rising sun, especially during peak viewing days, according to Space.com.

Stargazers should remove themselves as far as possible from light pollutions for best viewing experience. To see the meteors, look up and to the north.

What is the Perseid meteor shower?

The Perseids, named after the constellation Perseus, are composed of tiny space debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle. They are well-known among astronomers and stargazers for producing 60 to 100 meteors per hour when viewed from a dark location.

Are there any other meteor showers this month?

In addition to the brightest meteor shower of the year, Texans can also see the Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids, which will peak on July 30-31, respectively.
