Charlize Theron Admits She Embarrasses Her Kids ‘Constantly’ & Moms Feel Her Pain

Charlize Theron is working hard right now — she is producing at least five upcoming films at the moment — but her kids don’t care. The Mad Max: Fury Road star admitted that despite her celebrity, she’s “constantly” embarrassing daughters Jackson, 11, and August, 9.

“Oh, my God, they’re so embarrassed by me constantly,” she told E! News at her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) 2024 Block Party on July 13. “They’re kids, they’re girls, you know? I have a preteen and I feel like I have a nine year old who thinks she’s a 13-year-old. It’s a lot of girl in our house.”

The Bombshell star, who adopted Jackson in 2012 and August in 2015, said that she struggles with regular parenting issues like everyone else. “I’m just trying to keep my head above water, because they are smart and they are witty and they are firecrackers, but they do not go, ‘Oh my god, Mom, you’re so amazing.’ They’re like, ‘Excuse me, I need. I want,’” she told the outlet. That definitely sounds familiar! (And if a bona-fide action hero can’t get her kids to think she’s cool, what hope do the rest of us have?!)

“They’re a—holes, but they’re really nice,” she added. “Other parents know what I’m talking about.” Theron’s not trying to be mean — that’s generally just how kids are!

Despite it all, there are still sometimes her kids think she’s pretty cool. Like when she took them to Disney World for spring break earlier this year, sharing pictures of her girls smiling at the parks and screaming on the TRON ride. She also took her daughters to see Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour , writing on Instagram , “Thank you for the best birthday ever @taylorswift !!! We had such a great f*cking time 💃”

In an interview with SheKnows in 2022, the Oscar winner said, “It’s strange, little girls come into this world just naturally having that [ability to share their voices], and then we slowly break and kill that. We have to stop doing that. They have it.”
