Not one but two new ones from the boys of 49 Winchester . We are nearing the release date for their forthcoming album, Leavin’ This Holler. With a release date of August 2nd and three singles from the tracklist released, the group from Castlewood, Virginia, decided to surprise fans and drop two more tracks from the album today, "Make It Count" and "Hillbilly Happy." If you've been to a 49 show recently, odds are you've heard "Hillbilly Happy." The band has been having a blast taking the honky tonk twanger to the stage, bringing the upbeat track to fans long before it hit streaming platforms. However, the boys have been sitting on this song for a hot minute,
playing it live since 2022. The blue-collar and them is the perfect track to cut loose to after a long week. The lyrics note that it doesn't take much to make a "Hillbilly Happy," and all they need is a little time off, a little whiskey or beer, and some money to get away with their little lady. "Well it don't take much To make a Hillbilly Happy You ain't got to go too far to start feelin' free Just need a little time off Need a little vacation Oh ya need a little flatland and a change of scenery..." The song's bridge is filled with steel guitar and transports you to a dive bar where folks are swing dancing and drinking cheap beer. "Hillbilly Happy" is a song that can fit any mood and any season. It's a certified heater. The second song the group released, "Make It Count," highlights how far this group has come, highlighting living in the moment and making every second of living this dream count. 49 Winchester has been in a band since high school, and you can see the reflection of their over decade-long friendship and how quickly time passes when you are on the road with your buddies having fun. Lead singer Isaac Gibson once noted:
"There’s been nothing in my life that’s ever lasted a decade. We had just gotten out of high school when we played our first show — 10 years later, we’re opening for Luke Combs at the O2 Arena.” The song's lyrics say that they are hungry to keep climbing the ranks, growing their following, and putting out music that is true to their roots and that fans will love. While these boys might have come from humble roots, they put their noses to the grindstone to get to where they are now, and they don't plan on slowing down or taking it for granted. "And time flies by And I ain't getting any younger But I never let that hunger die down Well I gotta go I gotta strike while the iron's hot I might not get but one shot
Better make it count Lord you better make it count..." "Make It Count" is the perfect nostalgic track of how far they have come as a band. Both of these singles follow the formula for a hit 49 Winchester song, and both of these deserve to be played at maximum volume today.
