After six long years, Fergie might finally be off the hook for her botched rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Coming in to replace her is country singer Ingrid Andress , whose performance of the national anthem at Monday night’s (June 15) 2024 Home Run Derby is being heavily trolled on social media.

Andress, who is a four-time Grammy nominee, gained fame when she released her 2019 hit “More Hearts Than Mine.” In 2021, she was nominated at the Grammys for Best New Artist, Best Country Song and Best Album — and in 2023, she was recognized in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category for her and Sam Hunt’s song “Wishful Drinking.”

However, it’s looking like the singer — who’s gearing up for the release of her new single “Colorado 9” on July 24 — should just stick to country music. To put it bluntly, her performance of the national anthem at the MLB game was littered with voice cracks and what appeared to be high-pitched moaning.

Unfortunately for Andress, social media users don’t seem ready to give her a break just yet.

Ingrid Andress Admits She Was “Drunk” During Botched National Anthem Performance: “I’m Checking Myself Into A Facility Today”

“That Ingrid Andress national anthem might have been the worst thing to happen in America in the last 48 hours,” one wrote , while another added , “It is impressive that this Ingrid Andress has missed every single note. That was painful.”

A third person said , “I’m so sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life.”

Someone else chimed in , “Some person named Ingrid Andress just sang one of the worst renditions of the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ I have ever heard at the MLB Home Run Derby,” while a fifth person called the performance “embarrassing and disrespectful.”

Another joked , “Wow! @IngridAndress actually did it, she united America.”

Andress’ fans, on the other hand, were more willing to show her some compassion.

“Just gonna state for the record that Ingrid Andress is a phenomenal talent,” one wrote . “‘More Hearts Than Mine’ is one of the best songs ever written. Not sure what happened tonight, but I do know that most of y’all wouldn’t sound half that good singing in your shower let alone in a stadium.”

Someone else replied , “Yes. She’s super talented. Something was really wrong. Not her norm,” while another added , “The anthem isn’t an easy song. There’s no shame in not having the pipes for it. I just don’t understand how her manager or label or the network let her go out there after soundcheck.”

UPDATED 7/16/24 AT 2:05 P.M. ET: Andress shared today that she was intoxicated during her performance and will be checking herself into rehab. She said, in part, “I’m not gonna bullshit y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night.”
