The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reported one shooting victim was found dead inside a silver pickup truck. On Tuesday evening, MNPD identified that man as 38-year-old Carson Denny.
Denny’s 27-year-old step-brother was reportedly taken to an area hospital to be treated for critical injuries.
Authorities added that Denny arrived at his step-brother’s residence in a rented pickup truck on Tuesday, July 16. As the 27-year-old’s fiancé left for work, Denny allegedly approached her with a gun and demanded to go inside the home. Once inside, police said Denny shot his step-brother and returned to the truck.
The victim’s fiancé reportedly got him out of the residence to take him to the hospital. As they were leaving, Denny shot at his stepbrother and struck him multiple times before returning to the pickup truck and turning the firearm onto himself, police said. Denny died at the scene.
The 27-year-old is in stable condition at Skyline Medical Center, according to MNPD. The brothers had allegedly not seen each other in roughly three years, though there were no known issues between the two prior to this morning.
Homicide unit and domestic violence detectives are working together on the investigation. Denny’s motive for the attempted homicide remains under investigation.
No additional information was immediately released.
