List: Where to beat the heat in Prince George’s County

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — As high temperatures continue to settle across the DMV, Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation has announced that all outdoor events scheduled for July 16 have been canceled.

County officials said despite these cancellations, the volunteer playground build at the Palmer Park Community Center will still take place with modified conditions. The build will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon. To help volunteers stay cool, extra coolers of ice and water, cooling tents and fans will be available.

“The number of shade tents will be increased, and Park Rangers will be on-site to offer first aid if needed. Volunteers will take mandatory 15-minute breaks each hour, and an air-conditioned room at Palmer Park Community Center will be available for those needing a respite from the heat,” said the county in a news release.

In response to the extreme heat, officials have released a list of pools, cooling centers and more for the community beat the heat.

Outdoor Pools

The hours at the following pools have been extended until 8 p.m. for this week:

• Allentown Splash Park: 7210 Allentown Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744
• J. Franklyn Bourne Pool: 6500 Calmos St., Seat Pleasant, MD 20743
• Hamilton Splash Park: 3901 Hamilton St., Hyattsville, MD 20781
• Glenn Dale Splash Park: 1901 Glenn Dale Blvd., Glenn Dale, MD 20769 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday)
• Ellen Linson Splash Park: 5211 Campus Drive, College Park, MD 20740 (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)

Pool goers are encouraged to make reservations to ensure admission into pools.
