In a podcast appearance last month, Armie Hammer gave a rare glimpse into his life after his sex scandal. But, in addition to not taking much accountability for the accusations against him, the Call Me By Your Name star hinted that he was happy to have been canceled in the first place. And, in a new interview, he reiterated that once again, and this time it was crystal clear.

“It was pretty great,” Hammer told Bill Maher on being canceled in a new episode of his Club Random podcast, per E! News . “It’s incredibly liberating because so much of my life leading up to there was being preoccupied with how I was perceived, which now you don’t have to care about.”

According to Hammer, having the world against him actually made him kinder to himself. “Once everyone just decides that they hate you, you go, ‘Oh, well, then I don’t need anything from you people anyway,'” he said. “‘I guess I should just learn to be content with myself.’ And then you go do that, and it feels f–king amazing.”

Prior to the accusations, and the 2-year LAPD investigation that followed, Hammer said he was constantly craving external attention. “I needed that validation,” he said.

At the time the sexual misconduct accusations came around, Hammer was still married to his ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers. Cheating on Chambers was basically the only part of the scandal he admitted to.

“I cheated on my wife,” Hammer said. “I used people to make me feel better. I was callous and inconsiderate with people and their emotions and their well-being. And I wanted what I wanted, and I was going to take it at any cost, even if it was at an emotional cost of someone else. And that is shitty behavior.”

Unfortunately, he failed to address the many women he mistreated during the time. Instead, he kept it all about himself. “I experienced an ego death, a career death, a financial death, all of these things, right?” he said. “You got to die. And once you die, you can then be reborn.”

What a way to completely ignore everything the world was canceling him over…
