Jack Black made a surprising announcement on social media on July 16, sharing that the rest of the Tenacious D tour was canceled following a controversial comment from his bandmate, Kyle Gass .

The 54-year-old shared a photo of text that read, "I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”

Black's news comes after the band performed in Sydney, Australia on July 14, the day after an alleged assassination attempt was made on Donald Trump in Pennsylvania. During the show, the actor and musician reportedly asked Gass to make a birthday wish—as he turned 64 years old that day—with Gass saying, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”

Backlash ensued, and Gass responded as well on July 16, posting around the same time as Black to say, "The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement [sic. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”

Gass has allegedly been dropped by his talent agency as well, as reported by TMZ . While some people continue to criticize both Black and Gass, others have shared support, standing behind the band.

Tenacious D had more concerts scheduled in Australia and New Zealand, along with a sold-out U.S. tour set to start in October. Deadline reported that a source told the publication that information regarding "remaining tour dates and refunds will be provided at a later date.”
