ODOT, Ottawa County to repair two bridges

Motorists must detour

The Ottawa County Engineer's Office announced that the Ohio Department of Transportation will close Elliston Trowbridge Road bridge from Monday through July 24, and the engineer's office will close Portage River South Road over Sugar Creek from July 29 through Sept. 27.

Someone to know: Harold Overmyer, working the fair

With the Sandusky County Fair coming up Aug. 19-25, I had a quick interview with Harold Overmyer about the new general livestock building . He isn't shy, but wanted only a photo of the new buildings.

Q: What is your current position job with the Sandusky County Fair?

I am the current chairman of the building and grounds committee and a past president of the fair board.

You still have a number of positions, right?

I am a past president of the fair board, I think 15 years. ... I'm on the Junior Fair Livestock Sale Committee, and I'm one of the overseers of Junior Fair. The year of the pandemic; 2019 was my last fair. We didn't have a fair in 2020, but we did have a Junior Fair that year, but that's all we had, which was kind of nice, because we were home by 8:30.

What are some of your recommendations for special events at the fair?

Well, I'll be watching a heck of a lot at the fair, but if you have to limit yourself, we do have a new event that should be fun to watch, we will be having a frying pan-throwing contest on Sunday. But some of my favorites are the draft horse hitch show, the sprint car, of course there's also the king and queen announced on Tuesday. Don't miss the demolition derby, but the Power Wheel, for kids, is one of my favorites.
