Much to the confusion of Tom Selleck fans everywhere, production company Awesomeness is developing a new TV show about vampires called — wait for it — Blue Bloods .

The series, which does not yet have a network attached, is based on Melissa De La Cruz’s best-selling Blue Bloods books, which are set in a version of New York City that is ruled by an elite group of immortal vampires, our sister site Deadline reports. Jacquie Walters is on board as writer and executive producer.

The Blue Bloods series will reportedly revolve around 17-year-old Sky, a human-vampire hybrid who has recently enrolled at the distinguished Duchesne Institute. Following her exile from the high-ranking vampire group known as the Blue Bloods, Sky is struggling to find her place in the world — a process that becomes even more difficult when she discovers that an ancient breed of evil vampires has returned to wreak havoc in the Big Apple.

De La Cruz will also executive-produce, alongside Richard Abate for 3 Arts Entertainment and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein for The Gotham Group.

“I am so excited to bring my beloved Blue Bloods series to life with a stellar team at Awesomeness, Gotham, 3Arts and our incredible writer Jacquie Walters who understands my story and characters deeply,” De La Cruz said in a statement. “Cannot wait to see them on screen at last!!! LFG!!!”

This is not the first time a book series from De La Cruz has been adapted into a TV series; she wrote the source material for Lifetime’s short-lived Witches of East End . She also pens the prequel books for Disney’s Descendants franchise , which have been released ahead of each film.
