Maine Coon Cats Learn to Train Their Humans Like the Kitty Bosses They Are

If there's one thing cats are good at, it's getting us to do whatever they want. They're just too cute to resist, and that's just the reality of being a cat parent. You will be manipulated, and you have to be cool with that.

On Monday, July 16th, a couple of Maine Coon cats were very bold in showing off how they had "tricked" their humans into being trained to do exactly what they want, and not the other way around. It's almost unbelievable:

We have fun training our cats. Somedays it’s reversed to where the cats train us. #cattraining #mainecoon #smartcat

As funny as this is, @mryan108 doesn't mind being trained by her cats. It's natural; they learn our cues, we learn theirs, and we follow theirs even when they don't follow ours...

There are three Maine Coons in this family, which is actually insane to me; one seems hard enough to handle, but three?! You're crazy! They're all boys, and their names are Ringo, Rocco, and Ozzy.

They may love each other, but more than that, they love to mess with their mom. Recently, they got busted for breaking into not one, but two bags of treats! Of course, they didn't get in much trouble; they're too sweet. They've trained her well: beyond a gentle scolding and public shaming to all of their TikTok followers, the boys faced no repercussions.

Our Cats Really Do Train Us

Cats are a little bit harder to train than dogs, not because they're less intelligent, but because they're more stubborn. Cats typically learn to come to the sound of their name, a can opening, or a bag opening. You may be able to train them to walk on a leash , but beyond that, you're kind of at their mercy.

However, in having a cat, they also train us to do certain things. We:

    1. Learn to identify and respond to their different meows.
    2. Give in to their desires for playtime, nap time, or treats.
      1. They typically train humans to do this by simply being super lovey and cute.
    3. Feed them at the same time in the same place every day, which they ensure by meowing relentlessly until they're satisfied.

Our cats train us in the same way our dogs do, and they typically get their way. However, even if you're not doing traditional trick-training , you should take care to train your cat not to beg. Otherwise, they will absolutely beg until the cows come home, and they won't hesitate to jump up on tables or counters to get what they want. It might be too late for these three goons, but there may still be time for you!
