Some England teammates not a fan of rising star Jude Bellingham

The English seemingly find their star midfielder to be pretty mid.

Jude Bellingham, the 21-year-old who scored two goals in the 2024 Euros, is not beloved by his Team England teammates, as reported by The Athletic .

“His demeanor was the subject of murmurs,” the outlet reported. “That ‘Hey Jude’ Adidas advert, which portrayed him as the national team’s savior, was well received by the public, but some within the camp felt the tone was at odds with the collective ethos of (coach Gareth) Southgate’s England.”

Bellingham is described in the piece as “exuding alpha male energy” and “fiercely competitive” and several factors have seemingly led to meshing issues with his teammates.

One large factor could be Bellingham’s rise to stardom.

Bellingham skipped the Premier League, bouncing from Birmingham City of the third tier in England to play with Borussia Dortmund in Germany before joining Real Madrid in Spain.

The outlet noted Bellingham thus did not spend much time in his youth with his fellow Team England players, leading to a lack of “strong connections” aside from midfielder Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Team England seemingly attempted to help Bellingham’s immersion with the squad by promoting him the day before before the 2024 Euros started to their “leadership group”, which includes start Harry Kane, Kyle Walker and Declan Rice, according to The Athletic.

Bellingham didn’t take to that responsibility as expected, reportedly blowing off media duties and forcing team youngsters to fill in for him.

That left younger players with less pedigree such as Cole Palmer, Anthony Gordon and Adam Wharton, per the report, to comment on the team’s inconsistency in the tournament.

Former England star Wayne Rooney criticized Bellingham for his approach.

“My understanding is he has been shielded because he’s young, but he has 32 caps and has been a senior international since 2020,” Rooney wrote in a column for The Times in London. “It may be time to grow up, make decisions and say, ‘I need to help out and speak during the difficult times.’ Because, if England win these Euros, I’m sure you’ll see him doing interviews.”

England fell just short of being crowned champions, conceding an 86th-minute goal in Spain’s 2-1 triumph in the title game, and Bellingham made headlines for the wrong reasons during the tournament.

In the Round of 16, Bellingham had a “crotch-grabbing” celebration after his tournament-saving goal against Slovakia. That gesture earned him a fine.

After Sunday’s defeat, Bellingham had a temper tantrum.

Frustrated, he marched off the pitch and kicked drinks in a cooler. Afterward, he was seen sitting on the England bench while glaring at the field.

Before returning from the bench, Bellingham was scolded by Kane and Southgate.

Those seemingly immature explosions, coupled with avoiding his media responsibilities, painted a picture of a self-centered player who is ruffling feathers.
