Outlander fans got a sneak peek at the much-anticipated second half of season seven, sparking discussions over a major change in a principal character's look .
The latest images from the hit Starz series revealed new styles for the likes of Jamie (played by Sam Heughan ) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe), setting the stage for their adventures to resume in November.
Spotlighted, too, was their daughter Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton), who ended the last season devastated when her son with Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) was snatched and sent through time.
Brianna is seen talking to the police about her son's mysterious disappearance , but it's not the missing MacKenzie child that has drawn the most attention from fans ahead of the new episodes.
Rather than focusing on the plight of the MacKenzies' son, it's Brianna's updated hairdo that's been causing a stir among viewers . Since returning to the 1980s with Roger in the previous season, Jamie and Claire's offspring has adopted a more era-appropriate look, complete with bangs.
This new look hasn't gone down well with all fans , especially as it seems longer and more unkempt as she grapples with the distress of her absent son in the recent teaser .
A disgruntled viewer expressed their dismay on Reddit, commenting: "My theory is that someone in the hair department is mad at Brianna, because WHAT is that thing on her head?"
One viewer leapt to the defence of the new look , responding: "The '80s weren't really known for awesome hair. Bangs were definitely a thing and later - high hair and spiral perms. I think she looks right for the time."
In response, the original post's author said: "It's not the style for me so much as it just looks so WIG-y. Also, the character has naturally curly hair so I would expect her to go back to that in the 1980s."
Another follower had this to add, asking: "Did they buy Bree's wig at Party City?!" Another fan remarked: "None of her looks have been great but ever since they gave Bree bangs it's just so... girl why do they hate you!"
Another viewer called into question the logic behind Brianna's ever-evolving hairstyles: "I don't get how her hair is straight when she's in her own time and curly in the 1700s. Also, how does Claire's hair always grow so quickly? Is time travel the secret to great hair?"
Richard, who plays Sophie's on-screen husband Roger, was on the receiving end of nothing but compliments. A Reddit user posted: "I'm only in season 4 but daaaang bravo on the Roger glow-up ."
