Ric Flair Shares The Unused Idea He Pitched For Sting’s Retirement Match

Sting finished his in-ring career at AEW’s Revolution pay-per-view earlier this year after he and fellow World Tag Team Champion Darby Allin beat the Young Bucks in the show’s main event. Subsequently, many fans would call this one of the greatest send-offs in pro wrestling history, with everyone working to ensure Sting looked the best he could do, especially considering his age. However, it appears if it was up to Ric Flair, who was in Sting’s corner that night, things would have finished differently, as he has told Busted Open that he pitched turning on Sting following the bout and being put in the Scorpion Deathlock to conclude the show.

“I wanted those guys to have the same match, but at the end, instead of leaving me lying there like that, just keep me on the outside the whole time. At the end, as Sting is standing there and those guys are gone, I jump on Sting. Boom boom boom, one big move to me puts the Scorpion on me, and we go out the way we started 31 years ago. It would have blown the roof off the joint, and it would have made me a heel, so I had somewhere to go because it’s just hard to get the people to get mad at me now.”

While not officially confirmed, it has been speculated that Flair is no longer All Elite, with the knowledge that the Wooooo Energy sponsorship of AEW, which was paying for the WWE Hall of Famer, has ended. In fact, many fans were stunned when AEW even hired Flair in the first place, considering his controversial past, although with it being common knowledge that Flair was Tony Khan’s all-time favorite wrestler, it appears he wanted the opportunity to work with the legend, even if it was only for a short time.
