Former host of The Real, Loni Love recently reacted to a post on X and criticized Tyler Perry for not hiring more black writers and directors to help him with his films.

Loni Love made her comments after reading a post about Tyler Perry’s latest project Divorce In The Black, which starred Meagan Good and Cory Hardrict. According to Screen Rant on X, Perry’s latest film received a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes which led Loni Love to react to the news.

“I love that Tyler is paying Black actors now I wish he would hire Black writers and directors that have experience to help him with his movies… He could improve the movies & make them award worthy if he would stop trying to save money by doing the writing and directing himself,” Love said.

Tyler Perry has faced criticism for writing and directing most of his projects alone, including his TV shows like “Sistas” and recent films like “Divorce In The Black” and “Mea Culpa”. Despite promising to delegate more creative control to writers, his latest films have still been met with largely negative reviews, with “Mea Culpa” receiving only a 17% critic score and 37% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. This suggests that Perry’s approach to solo writing and directing may not be yielding the desired results.
