WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (TCN) -- A welfare check led to the recent arrest of a man after deputies found the bodies of his mother and his girlfriend last week.

According to a news release from the Winston County Sheriff's Department, on the morning of Thursday, July 11, an individual found bloody clothes and bed sheets inside their trash can on Zion Ridge Road and called 911. Authorities responded and recovered the items.

Shortly after 5 p.m. that day, the sheriff's department received another call from a home on Zion Ridge Road requesting a welfare check. Deputies arrived to the scene and noticed the doors were locked. They gained entry through the window and reportedly found the bodies of two deceased victims, later identified as Linda Daniels and Chancie Ware. The sheriff's department did not provide further details on how they died but said the Mississippi Crime Lab will perform an autopsy.

Investigators identified Carlos Daniels, Linda Daniel's son and Ware's boyfriend, as a person of interest in their deaths. Authorities received a description of the suspect's vehicle and learned he was last seen leaving the Zion Ridge Road home at around 10 a.m. on July 11.

Investigators issued a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) alert for Carlos Daniels and his car, and they found out he was in Scott County, Mississippi. Chief Deputy Brad Ellis with the Scott County Sheriff's Office performed a traffic stop on the vehicle. Daniels was subsequently taken into custody and transported back to Winston County.

In an updated release, the Winston County Sheriff's Department said Daniels faces two counts of first-degree murder, and a judge denied him bond.
