Tiffany Haddish has spoken after her ex-boyfriend, Common, made headlines with his remarks about marrying Jennifer Hudson. The comedian and actress addressed the news on social media.
While promoting his new album with Pete Rock on The Breakfast Club, the “Come Close” rapper gushed about his lady and discussed potential plans to marry her.
The 52-year-old rapper admitted that his relationship with the ‘Dreamgirls’ star is unlike any of his previous relationships. He said they have a special “connection” spiritually and because they were both raised in Chicago.
Speaking on ‘The Breakfast Club,’ he said: “When you’re with somebody who’s from where you are from, it’s a different kind of connection, too. I mean, she’s (Jennifer Hudson) from where I’m spiritually. She’s from where I’m from geographically.”
Common also shared a defining moment that influenced his decision to pursue the EGOT star.
“One of the things I felt before we even started together was that we were doing this movie, and this security guard came to me. He was like, ‘Man, you and Jennifer Hudson are two of the closest celebrities I’ve ever met.
“And I was like, ‘For real?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, man, you two are really cool. She just bought ice cream for all these people on the set. And I was like, ‘Man, I just like people that treat people good.’ That’s part of the home for me too. So I mean, she’s there, bro,” Common recounted.
He concluded, “If I’m going to get married, it’s to her! This is definitely—with all due respect to all the women I’ve dated ’cause it’s all love—but this is a really healthy and beautiful relationship.”
This detail piqued fans’ interest since Common has never spoken about marriage in previous relationships.
In a comment that caught Haddish’s attention, one fan wrote, “Well, there, he said it. He wants to marry her. He ain’t never said that about no woman before.”
To which Haddish responded ‘sneakily,’ “EXACTLY! I hope they actually get married..”
Haddish and Common dated for nearly two years before separating in 2021. While Haddish has previously discussed the pain of the breakup, some point out that her response demonstrates that she has not moved on from Common.
