“I Don’t Want To Write Cliche Dad Songs” – Parker McCollum Says He Isn’t Trying To Write Dad Songs Anytime Soon

Parker McCollum might be becoming a first-time father soon, but don't expect any "Dad Songs" from the 32-year-old country star. A number of other notable country artists like Luke Combs have recently put out dad-centric concept albums (check out Fathers & Sons
if you feel like having a good cry), and there's nothing wrong with that. But dad albums aren't for everybody. McCollum has an album on the way, and he and his wife, Hallie Ray, also have a child that's expected to arrive in August. So could that mean that tracks revolving around fatherhood could soon be on the way from Parker? https://www.instagram.com/p/C3EOe8zuxLZ/ As the young country star explained to Audacy, the answer to that question is a big ol' 'no:' "No dad songs for me…I don’t want to write cliche dad songs. If it’s something that really stands out and is well-written and really honest and special, then I would cut it. But I don’t think I’ll sit down and try to write dad songs any time soon."
It doesn't sound like he's judging other artists for writing dad songs. McCollum is just making it known that the fatherhood tracks aren't for him. Unless an idea for one comes along one day and happens organically. Of course, once baby McCollum arrives, that all might change. I suspect that Luke Combs never envisioned he'd record an entire record of dad songs... and then he had two little boys, and here we are. All we really do know is that Parker McCollum will be very busy, very soon with his first child. But he made sure to clarify that once he's a father, it won't interfere with how he conducts his high-energy shows: "I want to make sure when these people go home, they feel like the money they spent or the money they saved up to come see you was worth every penny - that’s what I think about every night."
He'll have plenty of time to think about that stuff at night when he's kept up all night with his newborn... good luck Parker! https://www.instagram.com/p/C9aLe9Tu0pA/
