Who knew that the internet could turn so fast? Last night, the cruel world known as social media was eviscerating country music artist Ingrid Andress for her disastrous "Star Spangled Banner" performance to open up the MLB's Home-Run Derby. It was truly a shocking rendition of America's anthem, and almost everyone that watched knew that something had to have gone wrong for Andress, who has been nominated for four Grammy awards. But this was not a performance of a former Grammy nominee: https://twitter.com/JomboyMedia/status/1813005231363616990?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1813005231363616990%7Ctwgr%5E383e5269f4e2f15b0514336768379b0e4d1b6295%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.whiskeyriff.com%2F2024%2F07%2F16%2Fingrid-andress-admits-she-was-drunk-during-home-run-derby-national-anthem-says-shes-checking-herself-into-rehab%2F The night's events went on after that, and though the home run derby was exciting, Andress' national anthem performance dominated the news cycle. Everyone was waiting patiently today to hear from the country artist as to what went wrong, whether it be that she was feeling under the weather, or if there was some enormous technical issue. Ingrid revealed that the problem was actually
something much more serious : "I'm not gonna bullshit y'all, I was drunk last night. I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to the MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I'll let y'all know how rehab is. I hear it's super fun." https://twitter.com/IngridAndress/status/1813261515257999679 We're assuming that last line of her statement is self-deprecating, and considering what happened last night, I guess we can give her a pass for being insincere about rehab. And as it turns out, the internet has made a shocking heel-turn, and now seems to be 100% behind and in support of Ingrid Andress as she starts her rehabilitation journey:
It's good to see that everybody's supporting her, because this has to have been an incredibly tough 24 hours for the singer. But she deserves all the credit for taking responsibility, admitting that there's a problem and doing what she needs to do to fix it. Maybe she'll get a chance to redeem herself with another anthem performance someday - but then again, is it really worth the risk?
