I’m 8 Months Pregnant, & I Saved All the Expensive Baby Stuff for Prime Day—Here’s What I’m Shopping

As a first-time mom-to-be, I didn’t realize HOW MUCH STUFF A BABY NEEDS . I mean, there’s an entire industry for making your baby’s sleep routine as bougie as possible, and as a millennial, I’m eating all of that up. Of course my daughter is getting a chicest crib and bassinet. Of course she’s getting the Hatch so that soothing white noise lulls her to sleep at night (one can hope). Her crib sheets are more luxurious than my own! On top of all the basic and not-so-basic necessities , I realized about a month ago that I’ll need to double up on everything so that I don’t have to schlep a trunk of baby stuff over to my mother-in-law’s all the time.

Which is why I’ve been saving a ton of my baby shopping for Prime Day (July 16-17). I did have a baby shower, but I still ended up with a long shopping list anyway. And a lot of that stuff is really expensive.

I’m a month-and-a-half away from my due date, and am absolutely psyched that I get to take advantage of Prime Day to stock up on everything—here’s what I’m buying.

Jool Baby, Waterproof Baby Changing Pad

$64 $75 15% off Buy Now On Amazon

This is for all the parents out there who need a slightly more narrow, contoured diaper changing pad that’s still waterproof and easy to clean. This was weirdly not straight forward to find, and I had to return Skip Hop’s changing pad because it was like two inches too wide for my diaper changing station. But I found this one from Jool Baby , and not only do the measurements work perfectly (dimensions: 30.5 x 16.0 x 3.5 inches), but it has all the features I need and want (including cute colorways that match the nursery’s sage green walls). It’s wipeable, slip resistant, and has raised sides and belt for safety. I love that it doesn’t need a cover, because literally who will have time for this?

Happiest Baby, SNOO Smart Sleeper Bassinet

$1271 $1695 25% off Buy Now at amazon

The quicker I can get my beanie baby on a more doable sleep schedule, the better. The SNOO (read more about the SNOO here ) is the most effective, beloved smart bassinet on the market, and it’s what I’ll be counting on to soothe my LO to sleep in her first few months so that I don’t go bonkers from sleep deprivation. I’ll be snagging the SNOO while it’s 25 percent off , since its full price tag is a little hard to stomach.

Graco, SlimFit 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat

$160 $200 20% off Buy Now at amazon

My sister-in-law took me to Target to look at baby gear in my first trimester, and I was shocked by how much stuff there is that is specifically for newborns and not for infants. Like, you can’t just buy a car seat for your newborn—you need to buy a rear-facing carseat suitable for your tiny, fresh-from-the-womb human, and then get another car seat for when they’re bigger and you can flip the car seat around to be front-facing. Unless you get a convertible car seat that can works for newborns, infants, and small children up to 100 pounds (at that point, it transforms into a booster).

I was actually sent this exact Graco model to test once Baby is here, and my husband already installed it in my Subaru Outback (fits perfectly and I appreciate the slim fit), but I need to get another one for his car, as well as one for my mother-in-law’s. “And you get a car seat! And you get a car seat! And you get a car seat !” I did a lot of research about car seats, and I feel confident that this one is incredibly safe, durable, and money-saving, since it’s built for all stages, and you don’t have to get two separate car seats.

    Owlet, Dream Sock

$200 $300 33% off Buy Now at amazon

It’s hard to buy peace of mind, but with the Owlet Dream Sock , I can feel better knowing my baby is being monitored. The Dream Sock, which will fit snuggly on her little foot, measures pulse rate and oxygen levels, plus waking and sleep trends—all tracked in the Owlet app. If something, heaven forbid, happens, you’ll be notified in real-time. This is truly such an important purchase for my anxious mommy-to-be brain.

    Maxi-Cosi, Cassia Baby Swing

$160 $200 20% off Buy Now at amazon

I actually already got this as a baby shower gift, but now I really want to buy another Maxi-Cosi Cassia swing to keep at my mother-in-law’s house. After a ton of research and anecdotal evidence, I’m hoping that the swing (and all its bells and whistles) will keep Baby calm and entertained while I do things like, I dunno, pee, or shower, or eat. It can rotate a full 360-degrees to give Baby a view of everything that’s happening, has five swing speeds, 12 melodies and nature sounds, two recline positions, and super-soft material. Plus, like all things in 2024, it’s connected to your phone via an app, so you can change settings without needing to get up. Important: Do *not* use a baby swing as a makeshift bassinet or crib. I plan on using the swing when Baby is awake and I need a controlled environment to keep her safe and calm while I prepare food

KeaBabies, 3-Pack Organic Baby Swaddle Sleep Sacks

$24 $33 27% off Buy Now at amazon

Everything I’ve read informs me that swaddles help newborns feel more safe and secure (after months of being in a tight, cozy environment, that makes sense), thus making it easier to self-soothe and fall asleep. I already have a few swaddles I was gifted at my baby shower, but I want to buy a few more, since I’ll likely be going through several a day. These come highly recommended , and they’re supposed to be easy to use. Plus, they’re breathable and temp-regulating (and come in a bunch of cute colors and patterns).

Hatch, Rest Baby Sound Machine & Night Light

$55 $70 21% off Buy Now at amazon

Literally every new mom friend I talked to told me to get the Hatch , so that’s what I’m doing. It’s a sound machine (with noises like heartbeat, ocean, rain, lullabies, and more), smart night light, time-to-rise and time-to-sleep features, and more—all connected to an app on your phone. I would have been hesitant to spend more than 20 bucks on a sound machine, but after owning a Hatch myself, I don’t think I could ever go back to a standard alarm or white noise machine. Apparently what I needed for more restful sleep was listening to a thunderstorm in the background, and waking up to ocean waves crashing makes mornings so much more bearable? With my experience alone, I know this is the right call for Baby, so I’m excited to snag the baby version on sale.

For the full 21 percent discount, make sure to apply for the $5 coupon.

    Frida Baby, SnotSucker Nasal Aspirator

$14 $20 30% off Buy Now at amazon

The SnotSucker was recommended to me at the child care for beginners class my husband and I took, and I was told it’s worth every penny—it’s just a lot easier (and less gross) to use versus the bulb thing the hospital sends you home with. I’m getting several while it’s 30 percent off!

    Boppy, Original Nursing Pillow

$33 $45 27% off Buy Now at amazon

I was lucky enough to inherit my sister-in-law’s Boppy , but I need one more for my mother-in-law’s house because I’ll be (hopefully!) exclusively breastfeeding, and I don’t feel like dragging my one Boppy with me to her apartment (or honestly, anywhere I go). This C-shaped nursing pillow (designed by a mom!) is universally-loved, so I don’t feel bad owning a couple. *Adds to cart*

Infantino, 2-in-1 Tummy Time & Seated Support Pillow

$30 $40 25% off Buy Now at amazon

Never did I think the term “tummy time” would be in my vernacular, but here I am. Saying “tummy time” like every 20 minutes. “We need to make sure she has plenty of tummy time,” or “Look at this cute toy I bought her for tummy time!” or “Can you believe these tummy time mats are so expensive!” That last one brings me to this: I was recently influenced by a content creator I follow/know, and she genuinely sold me on how useful the Infantino tummy time and seated support pillow is. It reminds me of a pregnancy pillow that snakes around, but for babies. They can use it to prop themselves up while lying down on their tummies, or you can adjust it in the shape of a little chair. Since I’m determined for my baby to have the strongest neck ever, I’m definitely buying.

Medela, Breast Milk Storage Bags (100-Count)

$15 $22 32% off Buy Now on Amazon

I’m going to need five billion of these . Might as well stock up while they’re cheaper.

Aveeno Baby, Gentle Bath Wash & Shampoo (Pack of 3)

$31 $45 31% off Buy Now at amazon

Another product other new moms rave about: Aveeno Baby Gentle Bath Wash & Shampoo . It’s gentle enough on newborn skin, and it’s a 2-in-1 formula, which saves you room in the bathtub.

Frida Mom, Postpartum Recovery Essentials Kit

$35 $50 30% off Buy Now at amazon

Even if you had a baby shower, you may have ended up saving the postpartum essentials for your own shopping list (I actually did include postpartum stuff on my registry because I have no shame, but sadly nobody gifted me any of the things I included, SAD!). I’ll be buying the Frida Mom Postpartum Essentials Kit because it includes everything I need, knowing I’ll also be going home with the hospital’s postpartum gear, too. I’m hoping that combined it holds me over, and I’ve heard from so many people that Frida Mom is simply the best.

What this includes: 4 disposable underwear, 4 Ice Maxi pads, 24 perineal cool pad liners (I’m personally the most excited for this), a peri bottle (that is allegedly easier to use than the hospital’s), perineal healing foam (5oz), and a caddy.
