Prince Harry and Meghan Markle marked the end of a 64-year-old royal tradition by giving a new surname to their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Archie and Lilibet will no longer use the surname, Mountbatten-Windsor. Instead, their surname will become "Sussex."

Archie and Lilibet have reportedly used the new surname since King Charles's coronation last year.

The old surname of Mountbatten-Windsor was decreed in 1960 during the late Queen Elizabeth II's tenure. The surname was to be applied to all male-line descendants of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

An inside source had this to say about the change in the surname of Harry and Meghan's children,

it reflects the fact the family have, since the King’s coronation, the same surname for the first time.
