BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Auchinachie Cares continued its monthly donations by giving $1,000 to a group that makes blankets for sick children.

Every month, Auchinachie Cares donates $1,000 to a local organization. This month, Auchinachie donated to Project Linus of Broome and Tioga Counties.

Project Linus is a national organization, that creates blankets and quilts for children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or are in need of a homemade gift.

The assistant of the local branch, Susan See, says they donate 30 to 50 blankets a month.

She says they generally drop them off at hospitals, and the kids will keep the blanket with them the entire time they’re there.

“That’s the first thing that they do with the child, and that kind of relieves the stress and the pressure off of the staff member and the child. So, that takes their mind off of everything that’s going on,” said See.

She says the organization is completely volunteer, and operates through donations and fundraisers.

The $1,000 will go towards purchasing materials for about 15 quilts.

If you make your own quilts at home and would like to donate them to Project Linus, you can find donations bins at both Patchwork Angels in Endicott, or Jo-Ann Fabrics in Vestal.

If you want to volunteer or get more information, visit their website, ProjectLinus.org .
