Have you ever found yourself with a super small space, practically a nook, that kind of was just... there? Taking up space? It happens a lot, especially with older houses. Well, how about turning it into a book nook? That is exactly what TikTok creator Annie @Champagne.Chaos did with a window nook in her own home. In an effort to get her kids to read more, she turned it into the perfect mini reading space thanks to some IKEA pieces.

It didn’t help the reading, but it’s one of my favorite corners of the house🙌 #windowseat #ikeahack

Let's get right down to it. Annie's space is a bit awkward—situated between two walls, so there isn't much leeway for anything to go within, and with a window right behind. It is a couple of feet wide by a couple more feet deep, so not big enough even for a chair. Enter the IKEA nightstand.

Well, actually, first enter the frame. To bring the nightstand up off the floor and give it that built-in look, Annie creates a basic frame which gets screwed into the floor, then two nightstands go directly on top and get screwed into the frame for stability.

To give herself a little bit more space (and some hidden storage), she placed the nightstands away from the wall and added a hinged top made out of plywood, which matched another sheet of plywood that went on top of the nightstands themselves, joining them together.

To make them look truly built-in, Annie then adds framing all around the nightstands —top, bottom, and sides, then paints everything white to match the walls. Gold drawer pulls were added to give the IKEA piece a needed facelift. She then added a battery-operated sconce to the wall and new shades before giving a last coat of caulk to make sure everything had a seamless look—no gaps here!

Finishing touches include a custom-ordered seating cushion off of Amazon and a dry erase board for taking necessary notes, and voila—the whole piece looks stunning!

And, there you have it! It’s amazing how a bit of DIY can turn an awkward space into a childhood dream come true. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a sudden urge to scour my house for potential book nooks .
