CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — 15 years after a man was found beaten to death in Chesterfield County, detectives are still working to find whoever is responsible.

According to the Chesterfield County Police Department (CCPD), 28-year-old Damion West was working as a security guard when his body was discovered in a ditch July 9, 2009 . The vehicle that West was driving while working near the Ivy West Apartments was found off the road and empty with its door open.

Even though it’s been years, investigators are still searching for answers to hopefully give closure to a grieving family.

“He’s the victim of a homicide, [there were a] tremendous amount of injuries to his body,” said Captain Randy Horowitz with the Criminal Investigations Division at CCPD.

Police say that West was badly beaten and died from a blow to the head. Investigators also believe he was being chased before he was killed.

“It was a very violent death, and we want to make sure that this doesn’t happen again,” Horowitz said.

In 2017, West’s mother, Patricia Blowe made an emotional plea through Chesterfield Police and 8News, begging for answers .

“My son didn’t deserve that, and I’m just asking someone to come forward if they know any little detail about what happened to my son,” Blowe said in a 2017 interview with 8News.

Horowitz said that, over the years, the department has continued to review and retest evidence in the case because of advancements in technology. He said they believe they’re close to solving the mystery of what happened to West, but they need that last piece of the puzzle.

“We just need a couple of people to come forward, maybe just one to verify some information that we have, so that we can put this to an end and make an arrest and give some closure to Damion’s family,” Horowitz said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Chesterfield Police at 804-748-1251.
