Jack Black took to Instagram on Tuesday morning to announce the apparent cancellation of his comedy-rock band Tenacious D’s tour after member Kyle Gass said “Don’t miss Trump next time” on stage.

Gass reportedly made the comment on Sunday as his 64th birthday wish, referring to the incident on Saturday (July 13) when former president Donald Trump was shot in the ear in what the FBI is investigating as an assassination attempt.

“I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” Black wrote in a statement on Instagram , where he has more than 13 million followers. “After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”

Gass, the other half of Tenacious D’s duo and a longtime collaborator of Black’s, also put out his own statement on the social media platform.

“The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake,” Gass wrote. “I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”

Gass was also reportedly dropped by his talent agency, Greene Talent, Tuesday morning according to TMZ.

Tenacious D was set to play five more shows in Australia before returning to the U.S. on their tour. The American leg of the tour was called “Rock D Vote,” with all proceeds going to Rock The Vote , an organization founded by music executives encouraging young people to exercise their political rights. All tour dates have been removed from their website .

Gass and Black formed the band in Los Angeles in 1994 when they were members of the same theater company. They’ve released five full-length albums since, with Post-Apocalypto , their latest, released in 2018. Their newest single, “...Baby One More Time,” was released earlier this year for Kung Fu Panda 4 .

Gass has appeared in many of Black’s projects over the years, and the duo starred together in 2006’s Tenacious D In the Pick of Destiny alongside Amy Poehler and Dave Grohl.
