Aug. 1 is Colorado Day. It's a celebration of the state's 148th birthday.

Colorado joined the Union on Aug. 1, 1876. Colorado Day was first celebrated in 1877.

"[I]t is a celebration of identity, culture, and community," noted the Economist . "As the state reflects on its past and looks forward to its future, the people of Colorado come together to honor their shared heritage and embrace the boundless possibilities that lie ahead."

There are countless events associated with Colorado Day, and they can be seen here in a Google spreadsheet .

Two of the perhaps more noteworthy happenings are at History Colorado and Colorado State Parks. History Colorado is offering a free event at the History Colorado Center in Denver on Saturday, Aug. 3 .

The event will include arts and crafts, live performances, and snacks will be offered.

The event is free and open to the public and includes free admission to the History Colorado Center Museum from 10 am to 5 pm. Last admission is at 4:30 pm. You can reserve free tickets in advance of the event.

The Center's address is: 1200 N Broadway, Denver, CO 80203 . The contact phone number is 303-447-8679 .

And don't miss the festivities at the Center's partner museum, the Center for Colorado Women's History, just around the corner! Check out their event here.

Meanwhile, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) will celebrate Colorado Day ( on the first Monday in August—Aug. 5 ) with free entrance into all state parks.

"We gathered together some of our most breathtaking parks to showcase the beauty and splendor of this great state," noted information from CPW. "You can’t go wrong with any of the state parks Colorado has to offer, but if you’re looking to take advantage of the free entrance fee this holiday and can’t decide where to go, we figured we’d narrow it down for you. Lace up those hiking boots, put on some sunscreen, and venture out to explore what these Colorado state parks have in store for you."

Some of the parks can be seen here . To view all Colorado's state parks, school down on that page.

Also, please note that National Colorado Day (April 12) is something else.
