A dog's life is never as long as we wish. They should be allowed to stay with us forever. When a retired Military Working Dog named Rex was diagnosed with terminal cancer, his dad found the perfect way to honor him—by making him the best man in his wedding.

In a heartwarming TikTok video posted by Rex & Rider ( @mwdrex_and_rider ), Rex gets to be his dad's best groomsman and it's the sweetest video you'll see all year. Take a look below and try to hold back tears!

"Well, I even made myself cry with this one," the caption reads. The 1-minute clip opens with a photo of Rex and his dad in military gear. "Rex served 8 1/2 years and deployed with his dad," the video says. "He was diagnosed with cancer and given 6 months to live." The next frame is a picture of Rex in 2018 with the Navy and American flag behind him with a quick glimpse of military life right after.

The clip cuts to the present day, with Rex all dressed up in a doggy tux to take part in Mom and Dad's wedding. "We had the cutest groomsman," the video says. "This year he turned 14 and was his dad's best man in our wedding."

Dad and Rex pose together for wedding photos as the video adds the two were paired up in 2015 when they became partners serving our country. The wedding theme revolved around Rex with his paw print, cologne, and even sneakers donning his sweet face to commemorate the bond between Dad and the special pup.

As the video continues, Dad and Rex share in handshakes and happy dancing.

Just like these past 9 years, Rex was by his dad's side on our big day," flashes across the screen with photos from the wedding where Rex stands guard. "We love you sweet boy."

Of the 13,000 likes and hundreds of comments, the overwhelming majority were brought to tears at the thought of Rex's unwavering loyalty and the close-knit relationship Rex and Dad share.

"What an honor to have your best friend as your best man!" one person wrote. "Thank you for making him part of your special day. I’m sure he’d give anything to be there by your side," another said. "Bless you Rex. Thank you for your service. Live out the rest of your life with love good boy," another added.

Rex was not only the best man, but no matter how long he gets on this planet, he'll forever be the best boy!

    What Do Military Dogs Do?

Military working dogs (MWD) like Rex serve our country alongside their handlers. The American Kennel Club says these special dogs train for nearly everything, including tracking, explosive detection, patrol, search and rescue, and attack.

As fellow warriors, these pups are trained to protect soldiers for their 10-12-year service. If they've not been honorably discharged for physical injury or mental distress caused by the death of their human partner or noise aversions, they typically retire and go on to enjoy the rest of their lives with their handler.

Rex, and all the furry military veterans are true heroes like the solders they stand by, and they all deserve the world!
